Major Patrick Darling

Major Patrick Darling

Patrick was born in Perth, Western Australia and raised in Northern Ireland. He was educated at Harrow, Edinburgh University and at The Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester where he was awarded the Silver Gilt Medal as the best potential farmer. He served as an Officer in the 15th /19th The King's Royal Hussars which became the Light Dragoons from 1981 to 1998 when he then moved to Sellack, near Ross-on-Wye where he now farms. His Army Career included 2 tours of Bosnia once in Command of an independent Squadron during the civil War; and once as a Military advisor to Carl Bildt the former Swedish Prime Minister and High Representative of Bosnia straight after the war. Most of the early part of his career was as part of the British Army of the Rhine in West Germany. He also had an Operational tour to Northern Ireland, rode on attachment to The Cadre Noir in Saumur for a year, was a tank Gunnery instructor at Bovington, Adjutant of the Queens Own Yeomanry in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, attended the Army Staff College and finished his career working in the 1st Reconnaissance Brigade. Patrick's interests are wide and varied, he has been involved and supported a considerable variety of groups and organisations throughout the county of Herefordshire.
