HEREFORDSHIRE POMONA LAUNCH AT DEWSALL COURT – 1ST OCTOBER 2014

31/10/2014

By 2014 Major Patrick Darling

While farmers gather their fruit harvest interest has been revived in the ‘Herefordshire Pomona’, a unique and rare Victorian encyclopaedia of apples and pears. The original works, undertaken by Herefordshire botanist The Woolhope Club during the eighteen hundreds, have been published as a new facsimile edition by London publishers The Folio Society.   At the launch event at Dewsall Court a copy of the new encyclopaedia was presented to The Woolhope Club President, Jean O’Donnell. The High Sheriff was in attendance and spoke of the importance of these great works of Victorian art and science  both nationally and in the county. The Folio Society’s Jo Whitlock-Blundell and the poet and artist James Crowden both spoke and James premiered two of his poems.
