Happy 2021!

It was a funny old start to 2021 with a Covid test on 1st January, which thankfully was negative – Phew. It certainly made me really appreciate our NHS, the volunteers manning the testing stations and my health – whatever it was I was feeling better quite quickly.

Despite lockdown 3, back here at High Sheriff HQ there’s lots going on. These are the final weeks of my year in office, and while it’s a shame not to be able to be out and about, there’s plenty to do. And because I can remotely carry out my duties, there’s much to be grateful for, – a reasonable Wi-Fi signal, good IT and Zoom – what would we do in a pandemic without these things?

The deadline for Just the Job, my school skills competition for years 6 & 7 is extended by 3 weeks until 21.02.2021. This is a request from some participating schools and of course, I want to do anything and everything I can to help teaching staff. They are all working under such pressure and doing a fantastic job despite these most challenging of times.

As the West Midlands regional group of High Sheriffs, that’s Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire, Warwickshire and Staffordshire, we are preparing for a video meeting this week with the 2021 High Sheriffs who are due to takeover in March (or April depending on your county). We’ve been compiling Hints and Tips from our experiences to help them hit the ground running.

Here in Herefordshire, discussions are ongoing as to how we can hold a really memorable declaration ceremony for the incoming High Sheriff, as we (try to) work out what will and will not be allowed in mid March. But more of this to follow in due course.
And there’s a new High Sheriff of Herefordshire website coming very soon.
Belated best wishes for 2021 everyone, whatever it’s going to throw at you.
