A cuppa with Bodenham Carers group

Back in Carers Week, I heard about a carers support group at Bodenham run by Margaret James, and I managed to meet them on the the day the new restrictions were announced – how lucky was that.

Like all of the 6.5 million carers in the UK, lockdown has been tough as support and services, such as day care, were halted. Members have had to embrace IT, and have supported one another enormously during this time. It was my chance to hear their stories over a cup of tea and to enlighten them to my duties as High Sheriff. Their kinship and kindness shone through.

I found A Carer’s Prayer by Heather Smith and as today is #NationalPoetryDay, it’s most appropriate.

For many carers shielding continues, and a chat, offer to shop or help in other ways may make a world of difference to their day.
