In the first week of May I visited #wearefarmingminds.
Find them here:
Sam and Emily Stables (who farm on a Duchy Farm) both have lived experiences of severe mental health issues in agriculture. Recognising the isolation, both physically and metaphorically, that farmers can suffer from, they have taken the bull by the horns and set up a charity to start tackling those issues. They are both determined individuals who have identified a pathway. It’s often that farmers don’t see enough people so that their cries for help are not heard. Training the ‘gatekeepers’ to recognise the signs in farmers that they visit is just one of the many steps they are taking. Read more on their Facebook page, and find links to their charity. And by-the-by they have the most fabulous Shepherd’s Huts with hot tubs set in glorious high farm land on Callow Hill available for farm stay holidays.
