The High Sheriff’s Foodie Tour of Herefordshire 2020

Section 1 –  The Green Dragon Hotel to Pensons Restaurant

Sunday 30th August 2020, 8am and thankfully Storm Francis had passed through. Hereford City Centre was shiny in the morning sunlight as we arrived in Broad Street, Car No:1 for the start of the Foodie Tour outside The Green Dragon Hotel.  For social distancing cars had been grouped into 3’s so that the occupants formed a group of 6 for the day. They were meeting up in car parks nearby and then having coffee and pastries kindly provided by The Green Dragon Hotel

As 9 o’clock arrived, I was the first car off, with Dean Harris, High Sheriff of Shropshire next followed by The Rev’d Andrew Mottram, my chaplain for the year and his co-pilot for the day, Bill of Bill’s Kitchen Hereford

Tulip route books at the ready, we headed out of the city: Mordiford, Yarkhill, Stretton Grandison, Bishops Frome complete with hop harvest, Avenbury Valley to Bromyard Downs for a photo with stunning views across the town, Edvin Loach, Collington and onto Stoke Bliss.

Pensons Restaurant was looking stunning. Peta and her team welcomed us for coffee and the most delicious cake, plus lucky us, a private view of the Out of Nature Show art exhibition in the wonderful working vegetable garden, in aid of the The Cart Shed
The Cart Shed is a Herefordshire based mental health charity which provides people of all ages a place of peace, tranquility and simplicity, spending time in the woods learning green wood crafts. Do click on the link to find out more about this most worthwhile charity.

Time for Foodie Tourers at Pensons Restaurant was limited so it’s great to know that we can all go back to enjoy the art show at leisure, as there are timed tickets available on the website www.outofnature.co.uk.  The Cart Shed will benefit from all those who buy tickets.

At 10.45am it was time to carry on with the Foodie Tour.
