Tamsin Clive, Herefordshire High Sheriff 2026-2027
The Office of High Sheriff is an independent, non-political Royal appointment. It is a voluntary, totally self-funded role and the term of office is for 12 months, with the new High Sheriff declared each year in March or April.
The High Sheriff is the oldest secular office in the Country and in the nearly 1100 years of history since Saxon times,
it has lived through The Black Death, The Great Plague, Norman Conquest, WW1, WW2, English Civil War, 100 Years War.
And every time we have adapted. 2020 is another such year.
Dr John Manley - High Sheriff of the City of Bristol 2020
You do spend quite a bit of time
explaining you are not the Lord-Lieutenant!

Being appointed as a modern-day High Sheriff gives you the most unique opportunities for 12 months to find out how your county ticks.

I am glad that the High Sheriff no longer collects taxes as they did a thousand years ago. Instead we can concentrate on giving support and recognition to the legion of people in Herefordshire who dedicate themselves to help others
