The High Sheriff attended the Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Awards Ceremony on Friday 21st November as Guest of the Chief Fire Officer Mark Yates. Amongst other awards the High Sheriff’s Award was won by volunteer Matthew Davies.  This was a beautifully organised evening in recognition of long service and outstanding service by members of the Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.  The Lord Lieutenant of Herefordshire attended and presented the Long Service and Good Conduct Medals.  The Chief Fire Officers Certificates of Commendation were awarded to Crew Manager Jeremy Turner and Firefighters Julian Parry, John Probert, Martin Reynolds, Andrew Laughton, Courtney Metcalfe and Mark Ayling in respect of a daring, unorthodox and highly successful rescue from the flooded River Wye.  The Chief Fire Officer remarked that it the only time in his thirty year career that he had heard of a ladder being launched from a river craft.
