Bob and Bea were delighted to attend the Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets’ Awards Evening in the Town Hall, Hereford on Tuesday, 4th March 2014.  Organised by Major LC Glover, CEO of the Hereford & Worcester Battalion, ACF, Suvla Barracks, the evening was hosted by Colonel Andy Taylor FCILT MCGI MBIFM, County Vice Chairman of the West Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadets Association.

Bob and Bea were greeted by a Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet who showed them to the Reception Room where they met their host and other distinguished guests.  They were then led upstairs to the Assembly Rooms.  In attendance during the evening were HM Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire, The Countess of Darnley JP and The Earl of Darnley DL as well as the Chair and Vice-Chair of Herefordshire Council (Councillor Olwyn Barnett and Councillor Chris Chappell) and the Mayor of Hereford (Councillor Philip Edwards).  The most senior representatives of the three Services present were Rear Admiral Philip Wilcocks CB DSC DL, Brigadier General Martin Vine and Air Vice Marshall Mike Smart DL.

On behalf of the RFCA, Colonel Taylor made a short welcome speech.  Following this, the three outgoing Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets  each gave a speech summarising their year and the benefit it has been to them.  They were formally thanked for their service by Lady Darnley who presented them with individual certificates.  Citations were then read for the four incoming Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets, who were each issued with their Badge of Office.

Three adult instructors from the Army Cadet Force each received a Lord-Lieutenant’s Citation and were also presented with certificates.

Lady Darnley then made a closing speech officially thanking the support that she had received from the cadets and welcomed her new cadets.

There was a reception afterwards which gave Bob and Bea the opportunity to speak to the cadets.  They were left with the impression of a wonderful group of young people and the great benefits they gain from their time as cadets.  A special thank you must go to the leaders of all the units for their selfless dedication and hard work.
