At 3.15pm I attended the parade and the official ceremony of the Granting of the Freedom of Bromyard and Winslow to The Rifles. It was a wonderful event and the town turned out in force for the band and bugles, and the troops marching through the town centre.
I attended ‘How to Create a New Engineering University’ at Hereford College of Arts. Dr Janusz Kozinski, the proposed Vice Chancellor of the new NMiTE University gave an enlightening lecture on his thoughts of modern university education.
At 5.30pm I attended YSS at Worcester Cathedral, celebrating 30 years with a lecture given by Professor Nick Hardwick, Chairman of the Parole Board, former Chief Inspector of Prisons. I visited Megan Baker House near Leominster. It is a wonderful charity offering free, conductive education for children with dyspraxia, cerebral palsy, and other motor-related disorders. As can be seen from the photographs, my court dress with sword was a great hit. It was a wonderful experience.
At 10am I attended the Leominster Town Council Civic Service at the Priory Church. At 3.15pm I was at the Hereford Cathedral for the Harvest Festival. I enjoyed both services, especially the Ivington Primary School choir at Leominster.
At 12 noon I attended a lunch at Luctonians Rugby Club for their match against Chester. I gave a talk on the role of the High Sheriff. It was an exciting match and Chester won with the last kick of the match.
At 7pm I attended dinner for Hereford Cathedral School Cadets to celebrate Trafalgar Day at the Suvla Barracks.
At 5pm I had a meeting with Mayor Jim Kenyon and the Fire Brigade regarding the launching site for the emergency rescue service on the River Wye.
I attended the visit of the Princess Royal at ABT Products Limited, Ross-on-Wye, which is an engineering company, followed by a visit to James Gourmet Coffee Company. At 4pm, I attended a service in court dress to commemorate the 800th Anniversary of the Death of King John. Also attended by HM Judges. A moving moment was when everyone was asked to lay a lily and walk past the tomb of King John who died on 18th October 1216.
